The RFID technology is a device for automatic identification, based on the disposal and imprinting of information from distance by devices named tag or transponder.

An RFID system is made of:

• - a transponder (tag), positioned on the object
• - a reader, that usually can either read and write

The RFID tag contains at least two elements: the integrated circuit (chip or IC) for the storage of information and modulation of radio signals (RF) and the antenna for the transmission and receipt of signals.

RFID tags may be active, passive or mid-passive (known also as battery-assisted).

Taggie by Lanfranchi is based on passive RFID technology and it does not need any internal battery. The electricity given by the reader to the antenna gives enough power to make the chip working and transmit information.
